This blog is going to take you from, Face-what?, Twitter-who?, to knowing the ins and outs of social media and how to use and understand them.
For this first blog let's get educated a little bit on what social media is. Social media is basically media that is formed by the users; rather than companies, journalists, etc., creating the media. There are many different types of social media so we will start with the basics. The best way to learn is to do, so if you do not have accounts on any of these sites get one!
- Social Networking- Facebook, Myspace, LinkedIn, are some of the most popular in the U.S. A way to network and keep in touch with others.
- Blogging- What this page is you're looking at. Blogger, WordPress, are two of the biggest. Like an online journal.
- Micro-blogging- Twitter is the most popular. Share what you are doing in 140 characters or less!
- Video sharing- Everyone knows youtube. Share videos online!
- Wikis- allow creating and editing of web pages. Wikipedia is the biggest.
If you haven't been to any of those sites visit them and get familiar with them!
