#2 So, Facebook? The FB Introduction.

This is the first of a few posts on Facebook! You've heard about it but have you really thought about that name... Face... Book. I wonder how they came up with that... Anyway, we're gonna start off with the basics and some tips from some good websites and myself.

1. Register and Look Around- Get used to the layout by clicking around a bit. On the top you have the Home Button(brings you back to your homepage which displays info about your friends), the News Feed(shows stories about your friends), Status Updates(self explanatory), Photos(very popular to simply look at photos of friends), Posted Items(displays stories about friends), and Live Feed(displays news stories about friends, groups they've joined, friends added, etc.) Just play with these for a while. It will become natural soon.

2. Look Into More Features- Mahalo.com gives a very thorough in depth explanation of things such as: searching for and adding friends, adding profile information, joining and creating groups, and privacy settings. Great site if you have some time.

3. Some Tips and Tricks:
-Set your privacy settings NOW- You don't know who is out there under the guise of a friend of a friend. Here is a good post on Facebook privacy.
-Add some Photos and Videos- One of the most popular activities on Facebook is seeing what your friend is up to with some pictures or videos. Everyone loves to see them so add some! One word of caution, don't add anything you wouldn't want your boss to see. Yes, employers really do check.
-Organize Your Friends into Lists- Once you get a few hundred friends together it can become a hassle to see what your closest friends are doing. You can easily sort your friends with Lists. To set lists up for your Facebook account, go to your Facebook homepage and click the "more" link on the left-hand sidebar. You will see a link entitled "Create new list" at the bottom - click on that to create a new group.
-Search for Those Random Friends- Remember your best friend Bobby from elementary school? He's probably on Facebook. Look for him and any other friend you remember. You'll be suprised who you find.

My last suggestion is to have fun! I'm just scratching the surface here and we'll talk about Facebook a lot more, but look around and see what else you can find!

Got any more suggestions or things you like about Facebook? Post them!
